The turbocharged petrol version of the Baleno will be pitted against VW Polo GT TSI and Abarth Punto
Maruti Suzuki did not offer the 1.0-liter BoosterJet in India at the time of Baleno’s launch though it is available internationally. However, it seems that finally it is coming up with turbocharged petrol version. The vehicle was reportedly spied on for the first time in the southern part of the country where it was camouflaged with badges and was covered in black color. This is not up for offer with the Baleno in India. It is expected that Maruti might launch it sometime next year as the performance hatchback segment in India is on a rise lately! Though, our country is the sole manufacturing base for Baleno, but the automaker is probably producing this new 1.0-liter BoosterJet engine for export purpose only. However, now there is a possibility that this powerful Baleno might make its Indian debut at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo in February next year.
The 998 cc 3-cylinder motor features direct injection and turbocharging generating 110 horses and a max torque of 170 Nm. The power figures are similar to that of the Polo GT TSI, however, unlike the Polo, Baleno is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Furthermore, the BoosterJet version also rides on 16-inch radials but it gets a smarter set of alloys as compared to what Maruti currently offers.
