For football enthusiasts, the number 10 jersey bears a special meaning; with the illustrious likes of Leo Messi, Zinedine Zidane, Pele and Wayne Rooney donning it. For non-committed followers, it is a symbol of greatness and a stamp of significance in sport. Veering along the same lines, country’s largest-selling carmaker, Maruti Suzuki teased the Deca edition of the Swift online recently.

The hatchback, which was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo earlier this year, debuted online over the weekend with the #TheNextBig10 marketing campaign. The 20-second video is a tribute to the ‘unlimited glory’ of the jersey number and touts the Deca to trace the same path.

As seen in its red and white guise at the Maruti pavilions in Noida, the Swift Deca comes with number ‘10’ livery running along the sides. The sticker is accompanied by twin racing stripes, across the roof, to add to the sporty appeal of the car. By and large, the exteriors otherwise remain almost identical to the current generation of the hatchback.

On the inside, the Swift Deca that was seen at the Expo, was based on the Zxi variant, with loud indications of the car’s number 10 branding. Prominent features included a retrofitted touchscreen infotainment system, dual-tone leather seats with armrests, a cushioned steering wheel, chrome pedals and red stripes running along the breadth of the car.

At the heart of things, we don’t expect much variation from the current powertrain line-up that features a 1.2-litre petrol mill, which puts out 84.3PS of maximum power and 115Nm peak torque, and a 1.3-litre diesel that is good for 75PS and 190Nm. Transmission duties will be handled by a five-speed manual, but the AMT could just to be available with the latter.

The car will most likely break cover around the festive season, with a price a price tag of Rs 30,000-40,000 north of the Swift. With the new season of European football kicking off earlier this month, Maruti has been spot on with the timing of the promotions. What are your first reactions to the Deca?
