Baleno RS debuts Suzuki’s Boosterjet turbocharged petrol engine in the country
Maruti Suzuki has introduced a sportier version of Baleno hatchback at the on-going 2016 Indian Auto Expo. The vehicle is christened as the Baleno RS. When launched, it will compete with Volkswagen Polo GT TSi and Abarth Punto. It will be launched later this year, around the festive season. It is Suzuki’s first ever turbocharged small displacement petrol motor in India and it is expected to be offered with other vehicles from the clan as well also. The thing to note here is - Baleno’s arch rival Elite i20 has not revealed Hyundai’s 1.0-litre Turbo GDi engine, as of yet. However, i20 comes with this new engine only in limited parts of the world.
The new BoosterJet series from Suzuki features direct injection with turbocharging. The 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged motor in the new Baleno RS musters a substantial 110 bhp of max power, while the torque stands tall at 170 Nm. The engine is mated to a 5-Speed manual gearbox
The go-fast version distinguishes itself with sportier additions - inside and out. The front bumper gets extensions, while bi-xenon headlamps with DRLs are borrowed from the top-spec Baleno. The side profile features grey painted alloy wheels of the stock Balneo. Coming to the rear, everything remains same, except the new dual-tone bumper featuring faux diffuser. On the inside, Baleno RS features sportier upholstery (probably leather). Besides this, rest of the features are borrowed from the top-spec Alpha trim - like a 7-inch SmartPlay infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, instrument cluster with MID and auto climate control, amongst others.
