To equip Wagon R with AMT (Automated-Manual-Transmission) is on the cards for Maruti for a long time and the Wagon R was recently spotted wearing AGS (Auto-Gear-Shift) badge. The launch is expected in coming weeks. Along with the Wagon R, Stingray version is also getting AMT. And not-to-miss the spied image is of the base variant of the Wagon R indicating AMT will be offered from the base. When launched, Wagon-R/Stingray will be the third AMT product for the company after Celerio and Alto K10 and manufacturer plans to further strengthen its AGS aka AMT portfolio. Moreover, AMT certainly will boost the Stingray’s sales, as since launch it is not as popular as the Wagon R.
Suzuki has also launched the Wagon R AMT in the Indonesian market last week. The AMT equipped car in Indonesia is nearly Rs 40,000 costly compared to its manual counterpart. Expect the same for India too. Speaking of the mechanicals, like the rest of its AMT siblings, WagonR/Stingray AMT will also be pulled by the same 1.0-liter K10B motor. The 998 cc 3 cylinder engine generates 68 PS of power at 6200 rpm and 90 Nm of peak torque at 3200 rpm. The engine will be mated to the same AMT as in Celerio and Alto K10, supplied by Magneti Marelli. The vehicle with 5-speed manual transmission returns 20.51 kmpl, expect similar figure for the AMT equipped car.
