Maruti to inject Rs 1,925 crore in its 6th plant in India

Maruti Suzuki India, the largest car maker of the country that produces more that one million vehicles annually, plans a fresh investment of as much as Rs 1,925 crore for the establishment of its sixth plant in the country by year 2013, as per a statement given by Suzuki group’s chief said on Tuesday. The sixth plant will add about 2.5 lakh units in the company's total annual production capacity. After the establishment of this sixth plant, India will become the largest production hub for the Japanese auto giant Suzuki Motors, overtaking the current massive facilities of the company in Japan and China.
With this, the company is also planning to refurbish all of its existing plants at Gurgaon facility that currently produces about 7,00,000 units annually. However, the investment for this process hasn't been disclosed by the company, so far. According to a statement given by Osamu Suzuki chairman and CEO of Suzuki Motors, the company has been facing supply constraints on some models and new capacities. he added that refurbishment of the Gurgaon plant would help meet local demand as well as its export commitments. At present, the total annual production capacity of the company is about 12,00,000 units in the Indian market. In addition to this, the fifth plant of the company is under construction at Manesar, Haryana with an investment of Rs 17,00 crore. The plant is expected to go operational from year 2012 and will be producing a total of 2.5 lakh units annually.
Moreover, the company is also in the process of setting-up a new R&D (research and development) centre and an engine manufacturing plant at Rohtak in Haryana with and investment of as much as Rs 2,500 crore. The company currently sales some of the most popular cars in the Indian market that comprises of best selling Maruti Alto, hatchback Wagon R, premium hatch Maruti Swift and starting range sedan Maruti Swift Dzire.
