The fortnight-long strike at the Maruti India factories ended yesterday. The workers and the management have signed the agreement on Friday and the workers have agreed to resume the operations at all the plants in full swing starting today. The Maruti Suzuki India management has agreed to take back 64 of the suspended employees out of the 94 demanded to be re-instated by the workers. In addition, Maruti India management has also accepted the workers demand to induct the 1,200 contract workers as and when the production is ramped-up at the plants.
The MSI management had informed that the workers will begin the operations from the first shift on Saturday. As a part of the agreement, the company has decided to form ‘Grievances Redressal committee’ and a ‘Labour Welfare Committee’ in accordance with the Industrial Disputes Act. Mr RC Bhargava, the Chairman of MSI had informed that the initiatives taken by the management will help in sorting out any labour issues at the company in the future. The committees will be able to handle the workers demand for the formation of Maruti Suzuki Employee Union (MSEU). The committees will comprise of the worker representatives and the management representatives apart from the Labour Officer appointed by the Government to take care of the issues ranging from minute to the major extent.
The workers will have a face from the management’s side to discuss any kind of miscommunication through the committees. The latest strike at the MSI Manesar plant commenced on October 7th after the workers demanded for reinstating the 1200 contract workers, 44 suspended employees from the previous strike and 50 employees suspended or dismissed during the third strike at the plant. However, the management has promised to look into the each case individually to implement the required action based on the severity of the offence. While the company agreed to induct 64 of the employees, they intend to check into the rest of the 30 within the next 10 days to close the issue.
