If reports are to be believed, since 2007, Maruti India is already done with the licensing pact to develop Fiat’s 1.3 litre of multi jet diesel engines at its Manesar plant. This diesel engine was initially used in Maruti Swift and then was used in models like Maruti SX4, Maruti Ritz, and Maruti Dzire. Rumor has it that the diesel engine was directly sourced by Maruti’s parent company, Suzuki Motor Corporation from Fiat Italy.

Reportedly, both Maruti and Fiat are on the final stages of signing the supply agreement for the Fiat’s diesel engine. The latest diesel car by Maruti India is its brand new Maruti Swift, which was launched on 17th of August 2011.
