Faced with an unparalleled demand for its products and a confined capacity for producing them at the related plants, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., the largest car-maker of India, has found out a novel problem solver. This unique problem solver is none other than the company’s 7,500-odd employees. The yearly  exercise of the company to encourage the performance has seen an increase in suggestions and advices from employees in the present year. More than sixty thousand such suggestions have already been lodged by the company. These suggestions of the employees are really the quality suggestions and every one of these will be executed within the present fiscal year, said the company.

A spokesman of the company said that they have observed and analyzed that every year the cost saving emerging out of those advices have gone up. He further added that most of the suggestions come from ordinary shop-floor workers and this is really heartening. This is beneficial for the company because it also provides a sense of pride and importance to the employees as they feel that their voice is heard and is significant for the progress. Most of the suggestions are related to the improvement of quality and reduction of costs.

Some suggestions are also related to the speeding up of various operations. The other suggestions relate to the improved efficiencies of streamline supplies and robots. Occasionally the suggestions are also related to the direct consumer preferences which often fill the gap between an Indian and Japanese consumer. The reason is that most of the Maruti vehicles that are observed on the roads these days are still designed in Japan. In the present year, most of the suggestions revolve around as to how the carmaker can build more cars without extending the capacity. In the period 2010-11, Maruti is planning to make at least twenty per cent more cars from its same facility. This facility is already operating at more than 100 per cent capacity. It is almost like creating a new plant, said RC Bhargava, chairman, MSIL.
