Maruti's totally made in India car to be launched by 2012

Maruti Suzuki India, India's biggest automobile manufacturer is coming with its first “completely made in India car” which is expected to enter the Indian shore by 2012. The Indian auto giant will nail down on the final design on the new car in the coming six months.

The source close to the development of the new car by Maruti Suzuki, revealed that, the Indian auto giant will make its final decision on the final design, the powertrain size and the positioning of the auto mobile in the Indian auto market in the the first half of the coming year.

A source confirmed that, it looks like that the new car which will be fully manufactured in India will be placed along with Maruti's best seller small car Maruti Alto. It is also believed that, Maruti Suzuki India, has decided to bring in the new car by 2012. Currently, Maruti Suzuki India reckon the parent Japanese auto giant Suzuki, for the company's future car models and also its growth programme.

The Indian auto king will be investing Rs 1,500 crore at Maruti's R&D center in Rohtak in the coming 3-4 years. The Rohtak R&D center in Haryana is the only well equipped centre which significant research centre other than the one in Japan, to match up the car's development programme.

When asked MSI's spokesperson about the development, he replied that, Maruti is always striving for buyers satisfaction, better vehicles and towards new technological advancement. When quizzed about the new car, he said that, he will not comment on the future car models or its development plans.

As per the sources, Maruti is keen on giving competition to its arch rival Hyundai Motors in the domestic auto market by manufacturing its first “Made in India Car” which is expected to be unfolded by 2012. It is also learned that, Hyundai is designing a new car too as per the Indian standards and its needs. As per speculations, Hyundai will place the car below Hyundai Santro and will be competing with Maruti Alto. The small car Maruti Alto is currently the hot selling cake of Maruti which is priced at Rs 2.29 lakh to Rs 3.26 lakh (ex-showroom), New Delhi and in a month almost 20,000 units are sold.
