Mercedes and Renault-Nissan to share engines

Mercedes and Renault-Nissan have signed a contract under which 128bhp 1.6-litre turbo diesel engine produced by latter will be used in Mercedes smaller models. The fact is revealed by industry sources from France. The powerful engine from Renault Nissan will be seen in A-class and B-class range of Mercedes. The deal will come into action from from next year.
The other part of the accord says that in return, Renault-Nissan will get Stuttgart’s 2.0-litre petrol engine along with V6 and V8 units to employ in its models. The high end technology based engine from Mercedes Benz is expected to be loaded in cars of Renault-Nissan's unit named Infiniti. The models from IPL performance are expected to carry a tag of ‘Powered by AMG'.
As per speculations from the industry sources, IPL variant of M that is in competition with Infinity 5-series will be utilizing AMG’s 6.2-litre V8 engine which will overpower the 5-series of Infinity but at the same time will come in direct competition with Jaguar XFR. The tie up of these two big names is also leading to a new concept in 3 and 4 cylinder diesel and petrol segment which will be used under Nissan, Smart, Mercedes and Renault model
The engineering of these engines lying between 1.2 to 1.8 litres, will be done by Dailmer and will be built by none other that Renault itself. The engine will be employed in upcoming A and B class models along with the next generation Meganes and Clios.
