Mercedes Announces Commencement of Production for the CLA

Mercedes-Benz has announced the commencement of production for its sporty and luxurious sedan, the CLA. The car is powered by a 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that returns 17.9 kmpl and produces 100kW (136 hp) of power and a maximum torque of 300 Nm. A 2-litre petrol variant, which produces 135 kW(183 hp)of power and 300Nm of torque is also available and helps the car accelerate from to 100 kmph in 7.8 seconds. The car is capable of attaining a top speed of 235kmph and offers suspension that is configured for the Indian road conditions. CLA comes with a wheelbase of 2699mm that enhances ride comfort, handling dynamics and provides excellent driving performance, which bestows it with an advanced competitive edge.

In addition, Piyush Arora, Executive Director, Operations, Mercedes-Benz India said“The start of local production of the CLA simultaneously in petrol and diesel variants is a key decision that will help curtail the long wait list for the sedan. Our ‘future readiness’ with the new manufacturing facility is bearing fruits as we started the production of both the CLA and the petrol GLA from the new assembly lines. We are glad to offer world-class products to our Indian customers with significant local value addition, in the shortest possible time.”

On the exterior, the car flaunts powerdomes on the bonnet and the signature diamond radiator grille. Mercedes believes that light modules and LEDs behind the headlamp cover glass create a characteristic "flare effect" for the daytime driving lights (DRLs) and indicators. CLA comes with sporty styling on the exterior and the interiors get a combination of high quality materials. The car comes with Panoramic sunroof and a New Generation Multimedia system, which incorporates Mercedes-Benz Radio and user-friendly navigation, precise map data. CLA has received a 5-star EuroNCAP rating and comes with safety features like ABS, BAS, ESP and 6 Airbags, amongst other features.
