Mercedes outpaces last fiscal's sales figure in 9 months

The luxury brand, Mercedes-Benz has far exceeded its last year’s target with 5,700 unit sales in mere 9 months of 2011. Mercedes Benz India recorded 5,600 sales in 2010 and with the latest sales reports envisages clocking 7000 units sale by the end of this year. Mr Peter Honegg , MD and CEO of Mercedes-Benz had said that the luxury brand is looking to increase its presence in the country by further expanding its dealer network stepping into the tier-II cities.

Apparently, the company is heading to give a stiff fight against the leading player in the luxury segment, BMW by taking the company’s sales outlets to 65 by adding 10-15 dealerships by next year to give a nudge to sales in the country. Overall, the luxury segment is expected to grow by 20-30% according to Honegg. The luxury segment, which occupies 4.7 % market share of the total car industry sales, sells around 2.5 million units per annum. Mercedes-Benz India is also venturing into the concept of cars on lease, which is rare for a luxury brand to test waters in the leased car business.

Mercedes-Benz has taken a dive in the cars on lease business in other markets like China, US and Europe, nevertheless, going to offer its services in the new business for the first time in India. He also reported that, the models Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Mercedes-Benz-E-Class and Mercedes-Benz-S-Class are going to be offered on lease for the corporate companies. The Mercedes-Benz cars offered in India are Mercedes-Benz-C-Class, Mercedes-Benz C-Class-E-Class and Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Mercedes-Benz M-Class, Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class and Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class, Mercedes-Benz CL-Class and Mercedes Benz SLS AMG, Mercede-Benz R-Class and Mercedes-Benz G-Class.
