After previously releasing teasing images of the new S-class Cabriolet, Mercedes has now uncovered the car in images before a scheduled launch in the upcoming Frankfurt motor show. Mercedes claims that the soft top used in this car is the longest compared to any of its models before. The top can even be operated from the key itself and takes 20 seconds to open or fold with the car moving upto a speed of 60 km/h. The S Class Cabriolet has marked its return after it first came out in 1971.
The car houses a 4.7-litre twin-turbo V8 powerhouse which produces 449bhp and 71.38kgm of torque with power being sent to the rear wheels in the standard S 500 variant whereas the AMG S 63 holds a 5.5-litre twin-turbo V8 under its hood that produces 577bhp and 91.77kgm of torque which can be delivered to either the rear or all the four wheels through the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system. Mercedes has also managed to keep the weight of the cabriolet same as the hard top coupe by using magnesium and aluminium on the rear body structure. The luxury cabriolet is 5.027 meter long and 1.899 meter wide which is identical to the ongoing coupe version. Mercedes logo on the rear covers the rear camera or the optional 360-degree camera. The logo also acts as a liver to manually pop open the boot.

The car is loaded with features which one would expect from the S Class name. The Cabriolet features optional Mercedes’ AIRCAP wind protection system which employs an electrically extending wind-deflector on the roof frame along with convex panels behind the rear seats to minimise the turbulence inside the cabin. The car also features Mercedes’ new THERMOTRONIC climate control system which automatically adjusts the temperature for roof-up and down conditions by using sensors. On the inside, the car features a choice of leather and different colours. The add-ons include heated steering, centre armrests and seats.
In the safety department, S-class Cabriolet has autonomous braking and pedestrian recognition, adaptive cruise control with steering function, adaptive high-beam assist and night vision. Also, the S-class Cabriolet has a rollover protection system which makes the roll bars automatically rise from behind the rear headrests to protect the occupants.
