According to AMG’s Chairman, we can expect a convertible variant of the monstrous Mercedes-Benz AMG GT to hit the roads later this year. Just after unwrapping the AMG GT-R – the evil twin of the AMG GT, a roadster can spice-up the competition with the Porsche 911 series. In conversation with Auto Express, Tobias Moers chairman AMG said, “The convertible has moved well beyond the drawing board and it will be the next AMG GT model to arrive.”
Adding more details to the car’s expected arrival, Moers confirmed that the convertible will have a soft-top, keeping heaviness and complexity to a bare minimum. Clearing the air around the manufacturer consuming its own market share by launching similar products within the Mercedes stable, Moers stated that the GT convertible will not affect the Mercedes SL-Class which is also a soft-top. The SL-Class is a grand tourer, while the GT convertible will be a full-fledged sports car.
We can expect the base variant to come with 462PS of power, while the GT S variant will have 510PS. All this indicates that Mercedes-Benz will prove to be a worthy competitor to its German counterpart – Porsche. Apart from the AMG GT, the manufacturer is also looking forward to introducing a Black Series and a track-focused GT4 variant. The coming variants of the AMG GT will be right-on-the-tail of the 911. For auto enthusiasts, this will be one hell of an interesting line-up!
