Mercedes-Benz is on a roll in India. Not only is the German luxury carmaker bringing in all its high volume products so that it can maintain its position as the market leader but it is also offering a range of low volume performance and sports cars to an ever-growing audience in India. Continuing with this tradition, Mercedes India intends to launch the new C-Class convertible in India by the end of the year.
The C-Class cabriolet will be only available in the C300 spec with no C45 or C63/C63 S model making its way to India anytime soon. The C300 will get the same engine as the GLC300 with the 9-speed gearbox but will be available only in a rear wheel drive configuration. The C300 cabriolet will make 241PS of peak power and 370Nm of peak torque, which should give it adequate levels of performance. Although unconfirmed, it would make logical sense for Mercedes-Benz to offer the same 300-spec engine in the likes of C-Class sedan and the E-Class sedan too.
Expect prices for the C-Class cabriolet to be around the Rs 60 lakh price point to begin with. Considering the fact that this is a convertible and will be a niche offering, the car will only be offered in a CBU package with no plans of local assembly. The C-Class cabriolet gets the same well designed and high quality interior that you get on the sedan. Mercedes-Benz might offer the Designo program on the C-Class cabriolet which allows owners to customise their cars according to their own preference.
The C-Class cabriolet joins the E-Class cabriolet and the SLK (which will soon be replaced by the SLC) as Merc’s drop-top offerings in India. Mercedes-Benz will also be launching the S-Class cabriolet in the near future in both standard and AMG trim to complete the S-Class line-up in India which currently includes the standard and Maybach sedans and the S-Class coupe that is available in both standard and AMG variants.
