The updated version of Mercedes’ smallest SUV will make its first public appearance on January 9
The GLA SUV is all set to receive a midlife refresh. Young as this model’s audience is, Mercedes-Benz has chosen to announce its arrival through its social media platforms, as opposed to a traditional press release. A teaser image has been released along with a confirmation that the refreshed GLA will make its public debut on January 9, 2017, at the Detroit Motor Show.
Going by the teaser image, the SUV will feature a new set of headlights (most likely LEDs), a new front grille, a new front bumper with round fog lamps and what seems to be a differently styled brand crest. It maintains the sporty silhouette and we can expect changes to the rear bumper and taillights as well, albeit minor ones. New colour options and wheel designs are likely to be offered as well.

Like the new CLA, changes on the inside will most likely include a push-button starter, a larger free-standing infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, an updated instrument cluster, along with the Dynamic Select button, i.e. Mercedes’ terminology for its drive mode selector. A few new trim materials will be used, but like the exterior updates, the changes won’t be in-your-face.
Mechanically, the GLA will continue with the same powertrain options as before, and the India-spec SUV will continue to be offered with the 2.0-litre petrol (GLA 200) and 2.1-litre diesel units (GLA 220 d), paired with a seven-speed automatic gearbox.
Global sales of the updated GLA could begin around March. Expect the launch in India towards the end of 2017.
