Mercedes-Benz India will be launching 'Special Editions' of its A-Class and B-Class on 24th this month. The event will be held in Mumbai. Following the company's new concept of ‘Edition 1′ packages seen internationally, the limited-production variants offer new features and gadgetry that were previously unavailable on the A or B-Class line-up.

To arrive with an ‘Edition 1’ badge, these special edition cars will be available only on the A 180 CDI and the B 180 CDI models. The most prominent changes on the outside of the Edition 1 trims includes panoramic sunroof, new 17-inch alloy wheels, glossy black finish on ORVM (outside rear view mirror) housing, smooth striped decal on the sides and an Edition 1 badge on the bootlid. While the cockpit additions includes electrically adjustable front passenger seats, updated reversing camera, rear seat centre armrest with cup holder and new rear infotainment system with memory options for the rear seat passengers. Other than this, Mercedes has also re-tuned the suspension setup on the Edition 1 A and B-Class. The new setup results in better road presence and an improved ride quality, plus a tad bit increment in the ground clearance.

Like most of the special edition cars, Edition 1 also offers no major change other than some cosmetic tit-bits. Powered by the same 2.2-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel unit of the out-going A 180 CDI and B 180 CDI, it pumps out 109 bhp of max. power at 3,200 rpm and peak torque of 250 Nm between 1,400 and 2,800 rpm. The engine comes mated to a common 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT).

Mercedes launched the diesel B-Class and the A-Class in India last year and currently these two accounts for nearly 20 percent of the company’s overall sales. Considering the additional features and limited availability, the Edition 1 is most likely to be priced above the current models. After this launch, the much-awaited GLA and CLA flagship are the next introductions from the German major in next few months.
