After introducing the performance-oriented CLA 45 AMG in July, Mercedes-Benz India is now ready to bring-in its regular version, the CLA sedan. To be launched on the 22nd of next month, the entry-level luxury sedan will primarily go up against the cheapest Audi in the country, the A3 saloon.
Just like the AMG version, the CLA is also based on the familiar MFA (Mercedes Front-wheel drive Architecture) platform, that underpins all the front-wheel drive products from the brand's portfolio available in the country, such as A-, B- and the GLA-Class. Mercedes will most likely launch the CLA-Class with both petrol and diesel engine options right from the beginning, unlike its other offerings, which were offered with petrol mills initially.
The petrol variants of the CLA will be powered by a 2.0-litre engine, while being a diesel loving country, a 2.2-litre oil-burner will make its way under the hood of diesel variants. A 7G-DCT automatic transmission with a dual clutch setup will come as standard across all variants. No 4Matic versions (unlike the CLA 45 and GLA 45 AMG) will be offered, though.
The CLA will be positioned below the recently launched C Class, and give Mercedes a chance to grasp a major chunk of sales in the premium compact sedan segment.
