Mercedes-Benz has just finished updating the E-Class, revealing a host of changes to the styling, engines, more standard equipment and safety features. Most of these changes are centered around the styling with the addition of new revised headlamps that have shed the classic 'four-eyed' look in lieu of a more contemporary style. The front end of the E-Class sees a lot of change as well with the bonnet following the new design in a smooth and straight forward manner. The bumper has also been re-designed to be free of all light functions and comes with a more modern appearance.
The rear of the facelifted E-Class showcases a revised bumper and LED tail lights with a new two-tone look that emphasises the width and feature a characteristic night design. The new design is meant to make the E-Class look wider visually.
In terms of technical changes, we get the new E-Class in a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol unit with 2 tuned states. We also have 2 diesel options planned out. One is a 2.1-litre, 4-cylinder diesel mill and the other is a 3.0-litre V6 mill. Both the engines will be in various states of tuning for increased performance.
There are several safety changes in the new E-Class as well. This includes the addition of the new 'intelligent drive' Collision Prevention Assist that has the ability to apply the car brakes upon sensing a collision. Also added to the E-Class is the Attention Assist system that is now a standard on all models. Attention assist will read driver patterns to inform the driver of fatigue and drowsiness levels. Also included in the safety package are Steering Assist, Brake Assist Plus, Junction Assist, etc. The facelifted E-Class can be expected to reach India by late 2013.
