German automaker Mercedes -Benz, will be bringing in another addition to its range of the S-Class luxury limousines. This range of luxury sedans already includes an extensive line-up of the Mercedes-Benz models, which includes the recently launched S600 Guard, the Mercedes Maybach S500 and S600, the standard S350 diesel and the S500 petrol models of the S-Class.
The upcoming sedan will be launched by the end of March and will be a part of the twelve launches slated for India in the year 2016, by Mercedes-Benz. It is expected that the upcoming sedan will feature a long wheelbase and don the moniker S400.
This revelation was made in a report, which also mentioned that the S400 suffix implies the incorporation of the same turbocharged V6 direct injected motor that is found in the E-Class Cabriolet. This motor is capable of producing 329bhp of peak power and around 480Nm of torque.
Mercedes-Benz S-Class is revered for its luxury and comfort, so much so that the critics around the world also claim that any technology incorporated by the S-Class takes around ten 10 years to make its way down to standard road cars. This bodes well for the S400's popularity, as it will be the most affordable S-Class-- an ideal opportunity for a customer to get the aforementioned state-of-art technology masterpiece for what any other S-Class owner will call a bargain.
Speaking of comfort and luxuries, it is still unclear whether Mercedes-Benz will incorporate its nine-speed transmission in the upcoming sedan, or if it will it stick to the 7G-tronic seven-speed automatic gearbox. The nine-speed unit will considerably enhance the car’s efficiency and performance. The upcoming S-Class will continue to include the standard airbag suspension and will be offered in a rear wheel drive setup.
The S-Class goes up against flagships such as the BMW 7-Series and the Audi A8. We expect the prices to hover around the Rs. 1 crore mark.
