MG Motor has managed to draw the attention of many buyers in India with its first Indian product, the Hector, which has already garnered over 38,000 bookings since the time of launch. Now, MG is gearing up for its next launch, an electric compact SUV to take on the Hyundai Creta. The MG ZS EV compact SUV is set to unveil in December 2019 with a market launch expected in January 2020.
We had earlier reported that MG would probably offer petrol and mild-hybrid powertrains of the ZS SUV as well. However, they are not expected anytime soon. This makes the ZS EV the first Indian vehicle to be launched before its IC engine versions.
The ZS EV gets a 45.6kWh battery pack with a range of up to 428km. It can be charged up from 0-80 per cent in just thirty minutes thanks to its fast-charging function. The all-electric motor puts out 150PS of power and 350Nm of torque.
Other than the electric version, the ZS SUV is also offered with petrol and hybrid powertrains in the international markets. The options on offer are a 1.5-litre petrol unit and a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol with mild-hybrid tech. While the former is capable of producing 106PS and 141Nm, the latter is good for 111PS and 160Nm. As far as the transmission options are considered, the petrol unit comes coupled with a 6-speed manual whereas the mild-hybrid is offered with a 6-speed automatic only.
MG is set to offer an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with connected tech, panoramic sunroof, cruise control, multi-info display and more. The ZS EV will also sport an inbuilt air purifier that will be built into its AC to keep the air quality in check.
The British carmaker is expected to showcase the IC versions of the ZS SUV along with its electrified version at the upcoming Auto Expo 2020. Prices of the ZS EV are expected to hover in the range of Rs 20 lakh to Rs 25 lakh and it will take on the likes of the Hyundai Kona Electric and the upcoming Nissan Leaf EV.
