Mitsubishi's Ecocar could come to India

At Geneva in 2011, the Mitsubishi Motors Corporation raised the curtain from its concept car ‘Mirage’. The company launched the new Mirage EcoCar model at the Bangkok Motor Show in March. The company is now contemplating on releasing this EcoCar on Indian roads. Aimed at the emerging markets, this 1.2 liter Mirage hatchback has typical features of a compact car and can seat 5 adults comfortably. The 1.2 liter petrol engine is said to promise a mileage of 20 kpl. The Mirage EcoCar is thus an efficient car that can be manoeuvred easily.

Mitsubishi’s Executive Officer and Corporate General Manager of Asia and Asean, Mr. Masahika Ueki mentioned that the company is looking forward to a second manufacturing site in India; however, the decision would be taken only after considering Malaysia and Indonesia. He added that the company has not yet taken the final decision on the launch of small car Mirage in India, the company is still thinking whether it should launch the new car on its own or should launch jointly with its partner Hindustan Motors.

At present Mitsubishi has various models tracking the Indian roads. The most popular cars include Mitsubishi Outlander and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport in the SUV segment and the Mitsubishi Cedia in the sedan segment.
