“Ultimat3” that’s how BMW described their new 2012 BMW 3 series models, and after the covers were taken off the car officially, we came to know why and we seem to agree. The 2012 BMW 3 series is hot, its sexy, its powerful, its one hell of a machine and it comes at a price of Rs. 28.90 Lakh for the 320d. The new 3 series will have 1 petrol trim and 4 diesel trims.
BMW has made subtle changes to the exteriors and the new model looks sleeker, sportier and yet more muscular. The interiors and powertrain has also get an all new touch and feel. Gracing the launch event was Dr. Andreas Schaaf, President, BMW Group India along with BMW’s new ambassador and India’s idol, Sachin Tendulkar, who was present among various other who’s who of India.
The 6th generation of the 3 series is much sleeker, looks sportier and athletic, exotic, wider, spacious and more muscular than the previous versions. The new 3 series has an electrically assisted steering which helps making the drive more comfortable and to add to the comfort is the double wishbone suspension system at the front.
When we talk about the interiors, there are no words that can explain the comfort that BMW cars offer and there are no questions raised about them whatsoever. The pre-bookings for the BMW 3 series started last week and has crossed the 500 booking mark, which simply is a warning sign to the competitors that it’s time to be on guard as the Ultimat3 is here.
Before we jump to the specification details, let’s figure out what new technology is the BMW 3 series offering and what difference will it make to us…
The new 2012 BMW 3 series uses the BMW twin-power turbo technology. This technology will help reduce the fuel consumption to quite an extent and in turn result to improved mileage. Now isn’t that irresistible…
Moving on, the drive of the new 3-series is a rear wheel drive which is one of the most renowned features of the BMW line-up.
This enables a 50-50 weight distribution across the entire chassis which helps make a perfect balance between transmission of power and traction to the road. In a layman’s language, this feature will benefit in terms of better control and driving pleasure, no matter what the condition of the road is.
The iDrive system in the 328i will allow one to switch between Comfort and Sport in a split second by just using the “Drive Performance Control” switch. This iDrive system basically tunes the suspension, gear ratios and steering as per the preset modes so you can toggle between the sports, comfort drive modes.
One of the latest features in the new BMW is that now one can download applications from the Apple App Store by just connecting with the BMW Connected Apps. Currently this will allow you to keep a track of your calendar, later much more will surely be added. With this, the improved 3 series will help you remember your meetings and also allow you to keep a track of your to-do list that you promised yourself to finish.
A full color Head-up display is placed in the driver’s eye range which projects the necessary driving information via a TFT display that will help make the drive safer and easier.
