New diesel car models to be launched in India by Maruti, BMW, Mercedes, Hyundai

Hold your breath! Luxury car makers are planning to launch diesel models in India thereby adding more customers in the tally. There are some leading car makers in the list- Maruti, BMW, Mercedes, Hyundai. BMW might introduce new E class in diesel engine. This new model will be displayed in Auto Expo 2010. Moreover, Maruti to roll out diesel variant of Maruti SX4. Recently, Maruti Suzuki has launched automatic transmission of Maruti SX4. Hyundai is also gearing up to unveil diesel variant of Hyundai Sonata. On the other hand, Mercedes, Audi and BMW sell more diesel products than petrol units. After the launch of diesel variant of Toyota Fortuner SUV, sales of petrol variant of Honda CR-V is under pressure. The production of the former is learnt to be increased by more than 60 per cent in October. TKM, deputy MD (sales and marketing), Sandeep Singh says that higher power and torque figures can be achieved through advanced diesel technology that can satisfy premium car buyers. He added that Toyota Fortuner, Toyota Innova, Toyota Corolla and Toyota Camry's sells is more than petrol variants. The same thing happens with General Motors. It's Chevrolet Optra diesel sales is more than 75 per cent to its counterparts. Maruti Suzuki’s fast movers Maruti Dzire and Swift are selling 65 per cent diesel variants and others like General Motors, Hyundai, Mahindra & Mahindra, Ford and Tata Motors are jacking up production of the diesel models. Hyundai Verna and Sonata, General Motors Chevrolet Optra, Chevrolet Cruze Mahindra’s Logan, and Tata’s Indica and Indigo, are seeing an increase in diesel model sales in the recent months. On the other hand, Toyota also going to launch electric model of Toyota Prius in Auto Expo 2010.
