The new Elantra has been spied on in India while being tested. While the South Korean carmaker did not bring the vehicle to Indian Auto Expo 2016 disappointing many, car enthusiasts can finally have a look at some spied pictures.
The new Elantra was first unveiled few months back in its home country, South Korea. Also known as Avante, new-Elantra when compared to its predecessor, is distinctively separate. Talking about the front profile, the new Elantra has a large grille in the shape of an elongated hexagon. This looks massive and dominating. In contrast, the current variant has the Hyundai logo at the top and the grille is placed below it. This gives it a 2-tier look. Even the foglamps in the to-be-launched sedan are well placed and complement the highlighted grille. The new version combines the present features of Elantra, with upgraded attributes like Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Autonomous Emergency Braking and High Beam Assist.
The mechanical duties are expected to be carried out by two mills. On the diesel side, it is anticipated that Hyundai will utilise the 1.6-litre powerhouse of Verna with some changes in the power delivery figures. Petrol duties are expected to be performed by 1.4-litre turbocharged Kappa GDI engine. This mill produces 128 bhp of power at 5,500 rpm and generates a peak torque of 211.5 Nm between 1,400 to 3,700 rpm. The diesel plant might mate with EcoShift seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, giving a mileage of 14 kmpl. Petrol is expected to come with a 6-speed manual/ automatic.
Though, the car is yet under covers, chances are high that Hyundai will bring the same car to Indian soil, shown in Korea. Expected to be launched some time at the end of this year, the car will compete with the likes of Toyota Corolla Altis and Chevrolet Cruze.
