New Maruti Wagon R ready for launch

Maruti Suzuki India, country's largest car maker is investing heavily to upgrade its second most popular car in India, New Maruti Wagon R. The company announced on Saturday that it has invested Rs 290 crore in upgrading its hatchback Wagon R that will be launched from a new platform with the latest K-Series engine by end of this month.
As the company has started producing new Maruti Wagon R, it has stopped producing the 'Duo' variant of the existing Wagon R, which has both petrol and LPG mode. According to Mayank Pareek, Maruti Suzuki India Executive Officer (Marketing and Sales), This (new Wagon R) is not a minor change, but a full model change. So, lot of investment have gone for it. Company has invested about Rs 290 crore for upgrading the model. Mr Pareek further said when the company does a minor face lift of any model, it costs about Rs 50 crore.
The company will launch updated versions other popular models of Maruti only after analysing the response of the Indian customers towards this new Maruti Wagon R. At present 'Duo' contributes about 20-22 per cent of total Wagon R sales, which stands at 10,000-12,000 units a month. The new Maruti Wagon R model will be available with a new K- series engine, which is compatible to new emission norms BS-IV.
The new Maruti Wagon R is based on a completely new platform and it has a new transmission also and according to Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) standards, the car will give a mileage of 18.9 km per litre of petrol, said Mr Pareek.
