The latest generation of the proper, entry-level Mercedes-AMG lineup is now in India, with the launch of the Mercedes-AMG C43. Unlike its previous iteration, which was only offered in a coupe body style, the new-generation AMG C43 arrives in the more practical four-door sedan body style with a price tag of Rs 98 lakh (ex-showroom). Let’s see what this AMG performance sedan has to offer.
AMG Design Elements
The Mercedes AMG C43 sedan follows the same overall design language as the C Class, but with AMG specific design elements. At the front, it features the signature Panamericana grille and a more aggressive bumper design. From the side, the C43 AMG maintains a resemblance to the C-Class as it is no longer a coupe, but gets the AMG-specific 19-inch alloy wheels.

While the rear of this AMG performance sedan shares similarities with its standard counterpart, it is distinguished by the quad exhaust setup integrated into the blacked-out skid plate. In case those design changes are too subtle, the presence of AMG badges all around serves as a clear indicator that this is not your typical C-Class.

Sporty Interior
Similar to the exterior, the AMG C43 sedan’s dashboard layout is practically the same as the regular C Class. However the changes include an AMG specific steering wheel, front sport seats with red stitching and red seatbelts, and driver's display and infotainment system with AMG graphics. Mercedes has equipped the AMG C43 with amenities like a 710W 15-speaker Burmester 3D sound system.
Downsized Engine, Up On Power
Unlike its predecessor, the new AMG C43 is now powered by a 2-liter 4-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, generating an impressive 408PS and 500Nm. This power is sent to all four wheels through a 9-speed multi-clutch automatic transmission. The sedan can accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in just 4.6 seconds, while its top speed is electronically limited to 250kmph.
However, it’s not the most powerful four-pot Mercedes-AMG in India, as the A45 S AMG hot hatch offered over 420PS of power. Meanwhile, the previous Mercedes AMG C43 featured a 3-liter inline 6-cylinder turbo petrol engine with an output of 390PS and 520Nm. Despite its smaller size, the new 2-liter turbo petrol engine delivers 13PS more power .
This smaller engine also features technology derived from Formula 1 in the form of its electric exhaust gas turbocharger. This turbocharging technology utilises a 48V electric motor to provide spontaneous response with regards to throttle inputs, throughout the entire rev range. This was the first engine to feature this technology for a production-spec car when it debuted.
Enhanced Dynamics & Handling
The 2023 AMG C43 is equipped with AMG Ride Control steel-spring suspension featuring the Adaptive Damping System. This system adjusts the damping at each individual wheel based on the driver's style and road conditions. Drivers can select from three damping modes: Comfort, Sport, and Sport+.
This AMG sedan is also equipped with rear axle steering, which has a maximum steering angle of 2.5 degrees. The rear wheels can turn in the opposite direction of the front wheels up to this angle at speeds of up to 60 kmph. This makes the sedan easier to navigate in tighter spaces.

Mercedes has equipped the AMG C43 with a 3-stage AMG parameter steering that adjusts steering assistance based on speed and driving mode. At low speeds, assistance is increased for easier maneuvering, and at high speeds, in Sport or Sport+ modes, feedback from the steering wheel is enhanced.
Rivals
The Mercedes AMG C43 performance sedan comes in as a slightly more powerful and luxurious alternative to the likes of the Audi S5 Sportback and BMW 3 Series M340i sporty sedans.
