Renault recently held a press conference in Rio de Janeiro where it announced its international gameplan up to 2027. It listed 4 main regions, including India, which it will use as manufacturing hubs for new platforms and models. The French marque revealed that India is one of its top markets (number 5 to be specific) outside of Europe. As part of its presentation, the carmaker shared that it will be introducing 8 new cars globally and developing 2 new platforms, including 1 which will be made in India too.
Details Of The New Platform
The new modular platform, which will also support different body styles, will be dedicated to 3 more regions aside from India, namely Latin America, North Africa and Turkey. The new architecture will be capable of underpinning vehicles measuring between 4 metres and 5 metres in length, having 4 wheelbase options (ranging from 2.6 metres to 3 metres).
Renault’s new modular platform will also be powertrain agnostic, meaning it will support a range of engine options ranging from internal combustion engine (ICE) models to EVs to strong-hybrid vehicles. Another benefit is that it can support both front-wheel and 4-wheel drivetrain (4WD) vehicles.
It is too early to say what the first model sold in India based on this new platform will be, but the first global product has been revealed as the Renault Kardian SUV.
Bruno Vanel, Renault’s VP, Product Performance, said, “These cars will feature the new Renault brand identity and will offer powertrain technologies suited to everyone’s needs while enabling customers to consume less energy, provide superior driving pleasures, comfort and life on board rooted in our brand’s DNA.”
