New sedan cars to be launched in India in 2012

The word sedan pronounces luxury, comfort and ease in handling once and again. Sedans have been an evergreen choice since the beginning and synonymous with an ideal family car in India. Based on the demand, the global and domestic auto giants alike have started offering the sedans from the entry-level to the premium segment to cater to the needs of the consumers who are in search of a thorough sedan. Fuel economy is another factor, the sedan scores high on, not to forget the classy exteriors and the spacious interiors that goes without saying. Another worth mentioning point on this front is almost all the global car manufacturers risk their debut in the country through a sedan, largely depending on its imminent success.

Of late, compact sedans are acquiring a massive fan base due to their low price as an under 4 meter length model attracts lower excise duty combined with the 1.2 L petrol engine or 1.5 L diesel engine. The year 2012 is packed with such launches comprising of both compact sedans and premium sedans lined-up with the potential to snatch the market share right under the nose of the hatchbacks. Country’s renowned utility manufacturer’s one time stint in the sedan segment in partnership with Renault had emerged out as Mahindra Renault Logan later renamed as Verito. The dud sales have begun to convert into mediocre sales with the name change. Now, a compact sedan under 4 m length is what the auto major bets on. The compact Mahindra Verito is likely to turn the tables for the sales at an extremely competitive price tag of Rs 4.5 lakhs.

Banking on the majestic success of Maruti Swift Dzire, country’s largest car manufacturer is set to weave the success through next level with the compact Swift Dzire developed based on the new Swift. The exemption in the price is likely to set the sales rolling in for Maruti India. The new Maruti Swift Dzire is likely to be placed at Rs 6-7 lakhs. To set a cat among the pigeons, Indian automobile manufacturer Tata Motors is said to launch a compact sedan based on its successful model Tata Manza. With Tata Manza CS, the auto major hopes to touch new heights at a price of Rs 5 lakhs. Generations old brand is likely to bounce back into the car industry to regain its lost lustre with the shortened version of Ambassador. The veteran Hindustan Motors would like to see the ball rolling at Rs 4.5 lakhs, a pretty competitive price for a sedan with enough room for 5 passengers.

To prove their prowess in the sedan segment, country’s second largest hatchback manufacturer is set to renew the fan base for Hyundai Sonata. The sedan is set to rewrite the past with its improved sales figures to make up for the low volume sales giving a new dimension to the premium sedan. With a major shift from the previous model, the new Hyundai Sonata is expected to be priced at Rs 18 lakhs. Noticing the only drawback in Nissan sunny, the Japanese car manufacturer has decided to fill the gap with the Nissan Sunny diesel. The diesel sedan is all set to take the market by a storm in 2012 taking the ‘cheap’ tag forward at Rs 7.5 -9 lakhs.

To capitalise on the outpouring demand of Chevrolet Cruze, General Motors is set to endow the car with a fresher appeal. With the tempting looks of Chevrolet Cruze, the auto major might not be disappointed with the success they are yet to uncover. The Hyundai Avante price of 14 lakhs in the premium segment is likely to give the rivals a good run for money.

Volvo C70 sedan could be the shred of hope to amplify its presence in India. The luxury car will sit in the luxury car segment with its eyes fastened on the nothing less than the top cars in the segment, the Mercedes Benz SLK Class, Audi TT, BMW Z4 and Porsche Boxter. Rs 80 lakhs price tag falls insignificant for the range of features it has to offer. The lack of diesel engine in the most demanding situations has left the auto major unperturbed.
