The Maruti Swift is one of the highest-selling models in the country; and for a long time, it has been due for an update. It seems that this long-awaited update is on its way as Suzuki has revealed the fourth-gen Swift concept at the Japan Mobility Show 2023. Check out what it offers and what the India-spec version can get.
New Design
The overall design and the shape of the Swift remains the same. However, it now looks more modern and muscular. The front design has a new rounded grille with a honeycomb pattern and sleeker LED headlamps and DRLs.

The side looks more or less the same as it continues with the ‘floating roof’ design language. The rear door handles are placed on the door again, compared to the current version which has it near the C-pillar. There’s a new design for the alloy wheels as well.
The rear end also has some design updates including a redesigned tailgate and revamped bumper and taillights, which have C-shaped lighting elements and black inserts.
A Similar Cabin
The first thing that comes to mind after looking at the new Swift’s cabin is that it looks similar to the cabins of Maruti’s other models like the Baleno, Fronx and Grand Vitara. This is because the steering wheel, instrument cluster and touchscreen are exactly the same.

However, the dashboard has a unique design. It comes with a layered dashboard with a black and beige shade.
Features
Not all the details of this concept’s feature list have been revealed, but by the look of the cabin, it’s clear that it will get a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, semi-digital instrument cluster, push button start/stop, cruise control and automatic climate control. Except for the bigger touchscreen, all of these features are available on the Swift currently.

In terms of passenger safety, it will come with multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program (ESP), hill hold assist and ADAS features like driver monitoring system and high beam assist.
Powertrain
Suzuki has not revealed much about what will be powering the new Swift, but the carmaker has said that it will get a fuel-efficient powertrain with a CVT gearbox. However, the India-spec version will most likely continue to come with the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (90PS/113Nm) with the options of a 5-speed manual transmission and a 5-speed AMT.
Launch Timeline
Suzuki will first reveal the production-spec version of the Swift and then it will start selling the hatchback. In India, we can expect the new Swift to arrive by early 2024. It will carry a premium over the current version which is priced from Rs 5.99 lakh to Rs 9.03 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, the new Swift will continue to rival the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios.
