Commenting on the ongoing labour strike at Maruti Suzuki India, the company informed that the low Maruti Swift production will not affect the supply especially during the festival season sales. The waiting period for the diesel variant of the car is around 6 months and the petrol variant has a waiting period of 3-4 months. The upgraded Maruti Swift was launched on August 17th and since then around 1.08 lakhs bookings for the model have been recorded so far. Mayank Pareek, the managing executive officer of MSI had informed that the demand for their flagship model Maruti Swift is huge and they are facing problems with the production of the car due to the recent workers’ agitation at the plant.

However, the production has reached the normal levels to 700 units recently. Pareek had also added that the auto major envisages selling around 17,000-18,000 units of new Swift a month as compared to the 12,000 unit sales of the older version back then. According to him, the company has high hopes in increasing the sales volumes during the upcoming festival season and intends to capitalize on the consumers’ sentiments by offering discounts. Apparently, the Indian automobile manufacturer is offering an additional 20% discounts over the last years’ discounts.

As it is, the Indian car industry has suffered a slow growth during the months of July and August due to the high interest rates on loans combined with the increasing petrol prices. The car sales have suffered drastically as compared to the corresponding period last year. Nevertheless, Pareek had refused to comment on the intensity of loss incurred by the company due to the 13 day strike in June and the current impasse at the factory since August 29th. The car models offered by Maruti India in all segments include Maruti Swift, Maruti Swift Dzire, Maruti A-Star, Maruti Estillo, Maruti Wagon R, Maruti Alto, Maruti Gypsy,Maruti Grand Vitara, Maruti Kizash, Maruti Omni, Maruti Eeco, Maruti SX4 and Maruti 800.
