The Elite i20 has received a generation update which sees its styling, engines and feature list, all make an upgrade

Update (05/11/2020):Hyundai has launched the third-gen i20 with prices beginning from Rs 6.79 lakh (ex-showroom). Read more about it here.

  • Front end features a gloss black hexagonal grille.

  • Its styling is identical to the Euro-spec third-gen i20.

  • Premium features include a semi-digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, and a sunroof.

  • It will come with three engine options: 1.2-litre petrol, 1.0-litre turbo petrol and 1.5-litre diesel.

  • Turbo petrol will come with a dual-clutch automatic.

  • Launch is expected in the first week of November 2020.

  • Price will start around Rs 6 lakh.

Ahead of its impending launch in November 2020, the upcoming new-generation Elite i20 has been spotted without any camo for the first time. Two different cars have been spotted and they reveal two different sides of the Elite i20. One gives us a look at the front-end of the new Hyundai hatchback, while the other set of images give us a good look at the interior.

The front fascia features a hexagonal grille that has a gloss black honeycomb pattern running all over. The rectangular headlamps (seem to be halogen projector units) flow into the grille at an angle, and the bumper looks chiselled, with smooth lines running across the surface. From the side, the hatchback seems to look identical to the Euro-spec third-gen model, save for the alloy wheels. These latest set of photos also reveal the interior of the car.

The unit in question has an all-black interior. Its steering wheel design has been lifted from the Creta, whereas the semi-digital instrument cluster is the same one seen on the Verna. What is new is the dashboard design. The huge 10.25-inch touchscreen sits in the centre and sticks out from the dashboard, with a floating-island kind of design. Then there are horizontal lines running on the dashboard which connect all four vents, much like newer Audi models. This design looks quite immersive and gives the dashboard a neat look. The Elite i20 will continue to do with a manual parking brake, as evident from the pictures.

Apart from the semi-digital instrument cluster and huge touchscreen, another top-end variant feature seen on this car is the sunroof. The new Elite i20 will become the second model in the segment after the Honda Jazz to offer a sunroof. The rear windscreen wiper and demister are also clearly visible, almost confirming that this is indeed the top-end variant of the 2020 Elite i20.

Hyundai will be offering the new-generation Elite i20 with three engine options, all of which have been lifted from the Venue itself. The 1.2-litre petrol engine that is present in the current-gen Elite i20 retains its place and is now accompanied by another petrol engine - a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that makes 120PS and 172Nm in the Venue. The diesel engine is also a bigger 1.5-litre unit that makes 100PS in the Venue. The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol motor is expected to be the only automatic offering, making use of a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

We expect the new Elite i20 to be priced around the Rs 6 lakh mark. In that price range, it will take on the Volkswagen Polo, Honda Jazz, Tata Altroz, and Maruti Baleno/Toyota Glanza. Image Source 1, Image Source 2
