After teasing its upcoming electric car, the e2o Plus, earlier this month, Mahindra & Mahindra has now officially announced the launch date of the car as October 21, 2016. The homegrown automaker has been on the forefront of building EVs, and the all new e2o Plus will be a new chapter in its electric energy journey so far.
The Mahindra e2o Plus is the first product to roll out after Mahindra’s EV division was renamed as “Mahindra Electric” last month. The four-door battery-operated car embraces contemporary styling and faster charging capacity. The distance covered in a single battery charge has also improved in the upcoming car, as per the company. The existing e2o runs 120km in a single charge of 5 hours and has a top speed of 81kmph.
Mahindra has been testing it rigorously in different climatic conditions; it was spied testing recently with the four-door design. The looks of the EV are expected to be smarter and directed towards the younger generation, similar to the other models across Mahindra’s portfolio.
Interiors of the e2o Plus are likely to feature an all-digital instrument cluster and a plusher cabin, compared to the outgoing version. Moreover, the touchscreen infotainment system, smartphone integration, navigation system and climate control system are expected to be carried forward.
As far as mechanicals go, it will be powered by the same mill that’s doing duties in the present version, though with additional tuning. That said, the current e2o produces 25.8PS of max power and 53Nm of max torque.
With respect to the Mahindra e2o Plus’ price, it is likely to witness a bump over the present one and will fall around Rs 6.5 lakh.
Can the Indian version of Tesla, Mahindra Electric pull this off? Let’s find out on October 21. Till then stay tuned.
