Next-gen Renault Koleos leaked ahead of Beijing debut

French automaker Renault has given the Koleos a comprehensive makeover!

The Koleos has been redesigned ground-up, and isn't a facelift of the existing model. Under the skin, it rides on the Renault–Nissan alliance's CMF (Common Module Family) platform that also underpins the Nissan X-Trail. At 2,705mm, the wheelbase is identical to the Nissan’s. Length stands at 4,672mm while width and height are 1,843mm and 1,678mm, respectively. The design is in line with the theme we've seen on the Kaptur. We have to say it is far more aggressive-looking than the current Koleos which has neutral styling.

Reports suggested that the new SUV would bear the 'Maxthon' nameplate. However, a couple of spy shots have emerged from China which show the SUV wearing the Koleos tag. It remains to be seen whether Renault renames the vehicle for other markets. For the Chinese market, the SUV is expected to sport two different four-cylinder petrol motors. The options include a 2.0-litre 150bhp motor and a 2.5-litre 186bhp engine mated to a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission.

There is no official word on whether the new Koleos will reach Indian shores. That said, the French automaker hasn't been too lucky with the product in the Indian market, registering weak sales. Priced at INR 23.5 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi), the Koleos hasn't found too many takers. All that could change if Renault brings the new version and prices it aggressively to go up against the Santa Fe and the Honda CR-V.
