After confirming a hybrid powertrain for its next-generation GT-R quite recently, Nissan has now revealed that the R36 GT-R is still few years away and likely to launch sometime in 2018. This concludes into the fact that we’re unlikely to see the iconic car on roads until the 2019 model year, giving the outgoing R35 GT-R a 10-year lifespan.
While talking to a leading auto magazine, Shiro Nakamura, Nissan’s top designer said, “The new car’s arrival won’t be until 2018, at the earliest.”
Nakamura also mentioned that, sales of the current model are very much on the right track and they are planning to update it in the very near future. Even the spy shots of an updated model are out, which is expected to be introduced for the 2016 model year.
In reference to the design of the next gen model, Nakamura notified that he has seen each and every speculative rendering of the new GT-R on the Internet, and is confident that ‘not even one of them is close to how the car will actually look like.’
According to some internet reports, the hybrid powertrain will be created in collaboration with Williams, unlike the engine of the current model. While nothing official is out yet, but powertrain is still under works, and is expected to touch the 800 bhp mark, meaning over a 200 bhp boost in comparison to the current range-topping Nissan GT-R Nismo.
