Nissan cars to get costlier, price hike of upto 3.5% announced

Japanese auto-giant Nissan, announced a price hike across its models. The price hike is an effect of the additional taxes levied on the automobiles, in the 2016 Union Budget. Finance Minister, Shri. Arun Jaitley announced an infra cess of 1%-4% on automobiles.

Nissan India currently sells the Micra, Micra Active, Sunny and the Terrano. Prices of all the vehicles have been increased by 1% to 3.5%. Nissan plans on bringing the X-Trail and the GT-R to our shores later this year. The X-Trail will escape the 4% diesel tax that is levied on its rivals like the Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour as it houses a 2.0 litre petrol motor mated to an electric one. Moreover, the X-Trail may also get concessions under the Government’s FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric vehicles) scheme, since it qualifies as a hybrid.

Also under the Nissan umbrella, is the Datsun brand, that the auto-giant resurrected for developing markets like India and Brazil. The Datsun Go hatchback and the Go+ MPV will get dearer by 1%.

Nissan joins the bandwagon of manufacturers who have raised prices post the budget to offset the added taxes. The manufacturers have had no choice but to pass on the increased levy to the end consumer. Recently, Maruti announced a price hike ranging from Rs. 1,441 to Rs 34,494. Hyundai  too, hiked prices up to Rs. 82,906. Other manufacturers, like Mahindra & Mahindra, Honda Car India Ltd., Tata Motors and Mercedes-Benz have hiked prices as well.
