Inaugarates a new parts distribution facility in Pune

Japanese automaker, Nissan inaugurated a parts distribution centre today. The third of its kind in the country, the centre is located in the industrial area of Chakan in Maharashtra. The facility will serve 35 service outlets in western India, and aims at reducing part delivery times by at least 3 days.

The facility is spread over 60,278 square feet, and will provide parts to after-sales outlets in Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh as well as the union territories of Daman and Diu. Two other part distribution centres are located in Chennai (that is also home to Nissan's manufacturing plant) and Haryana.

At a press conference, Nissan stated that they would be looking at strengthening its after-sales support. To kick things off, all Nissan and Datsun cars will get two years of roadside assistance as standard. The automaker also claimed that its newer cars are cheaper to maintain than those of its competitors, costing close to 32 per cent less.

Nissan also expects repairs carried out at roadside garages to decline overtime, since modern cars rely heavily on on-board diagnostic tools to comb out issues. According to the brand's research says that car buyers are consciously opting for extended warranties at the time of purchase, a trend that has been picking up off-late. To stay ahead of the curve, Nissan will focus on strengthening its presence and also improve customer experience at its service outlets.

The strengthening of after-sales is a good move and will go a long way in cementing Nissan's foothold in India. That said, Nissan needs to strengthen its product portfolio as well, and we think the 2017 Micra should be a good start!
