Nissan India ponders to introduce Infiniti range of luxury cars

Indian luxury car segment is one of the fastest emerging car segments in Asia and if reports are to be believed, Japanese car maker Nissan Motor Company is carrying out surveys in India with an idea of releasing its super luxury car range, which is popularly known as ‘Infiniti' cars. Corporate Vice-President — Africa, Middle East and India, Nissan Motor Company, Gilles Normand said that Company will be importing completely built units of Infiniti cars in Indian market. Further he added that the announcement of tie-up with local manufacture will be taken after some time.

Survey reports suggest that Indian super-luxury car market is quite small but gaining popularity at the same time. Sales figures of luxury cars are multiplying every month in comparison with the month last year. Report also unveils that German luxury car maker and market leader in high-end car segment, BMW sold 6,281 cars in FY 2010-11, compared to 3,461 cars in the previous year.Another German luxury car maker Mercedes Benz cars also received overwhelming response from Indian consumers and the company sold 5,987 cars (FY 2010-11) in comparison to 3,611 in 2009-10.

Furthermore, Audi India is expecting sale of 4,500 cars in current calendar year, which is 50 percent more than what company sold in 2010. Keeping the stakes high in Indian car market, Porsche India also revealed its sales targets for this year, which indicates that company will be selling at least 500 cars, compared to 130 in 2010. However, riding on the same lane, UK-based luxury car manufacturer Bentley cars, which recently made debut in India and whose cars are priced at Rs 1.9 crore a unit, expects to sell at least 100 cars in Indian car market.

Mr. Normand also said that Nissan India will be launching a new sedan car in India this year. But without disclosing any other information regarding its new invent, he hinted that the Indian market is drifting towards diesel cars. As for now, Nissan cars in India include Nissan Micra, SUV Nissan X-Trail, Nissan Teana and Nissan 370Z.
