As far as the pedestrian safety is concerned, Nissan Leaf achieved an average 65% rating and the credit for such low rating goes to its low nose design along with proportionate absence of certain points beneath the bonnet. The batteries (48 lithium ion batteries) used in Nissan Leaf are positioned under the back seats. According the reported statements made by the secretary general of Euro NCAP, Mr. Michiel van Ratingen, Nissan Leaf has proven itself that it is no less than other typical cars.

Now, it will be a little tough for the next-gen EV cars to compete with Nissan Leaf. There are five other cars, apart from Nissan Leaf, which had taken the Euro NCAP safety test. These cars include Volvo V60 that managed to score 100% for its Safety Assist. Other cars consist of Lexus CT200h, Citroen DS4, Ford Focus and Peugeot 508. Here, Ford Focus was successful in scoring the highest in the pedestrian protection, which is 72%. Nissan India is also making a mark in Indian auto market with cars like Nissan Micra, which is available at the price of only Rs4,15,409. Nissan India's upcoming sedan is Nissan Sunny.
