The Nissan Magnite may be late to the sub-4m SUV party but it’s made a splash on entry. With introductory prices ranging from Rs 4.99 lakh to Rs 9.45 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), it comfortably undercuts its rivals to offer a lot of value for money. Since its launch on December 2, the Magnite has recorded over 5,000 bookings in the first five days.
Nissan’s sub-4m SUV is offered in five variants: XE, XL, XV, XV Premium and XV Premium(O). The last one only adds connected car technology to the XV Premium trim so the focus is on the first four. All variants are offered with the 72PS 1.0-litre engine from the Renault Triber but there is also the option of a new 100PS 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine from the XL trim onwards. Both engines get a 5-speed manual transmission but only the turbo-petrol comes with the choice of a CVT automatic for all turbo-petrol variants.

In the official release, Nissan shared that more than 60 percent of the bookings were for the XV and XV Premium variants. These are the better equipped trims with features like a 7.0-inch TFT digital driver’s display, 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control and even a 360-degree around view monitor. More than 30 percent of the Magnite’s bookings thus far are for the CVT automatic variants. Nissan also reported that over 40 percent of these bookings came through the brand’s digital channels, which have become more popular thanks to the various precautions Nissan has taken during the pandemic.

The Magnite also gets a dealer accessory kit called the Tech Pack for Rs 38,698. It adds features like wireless charging pad, air purifier, ambient lighting and a JBL sound system. This kit along with the dual-tone paint options are available from the XV trim onwards. It is worth noting that these aggressive prices of the Nissan Magnite are only available to those who book one before the end of the year. Customer deliveries are slated to start in January 2021 and late buyers may have to endure long waiting periods.
