Nissan Micra to be launched in India in May'10

Much awaited small car of Nissan, Nissan Micra, will be launched in India in May 2010. The compact car has been showcased at Geneva Motor Show on Wednesday. The small car, Nissan Micra, would be produced at the Nissan's facility in Chennai. However, the Nissan plant in Chennai would be operational very soon. As per company plans, it would be available for Indian customers in July 2010. The car is to be marketed in 160 nations across the world from September 2010. In addition to that the sales in Thailand and European nations will start in March 2010 and November 2010 respectively. The Nissan Micra would be positioned against the likes of Maruti Estilo, Maruti Wagon R, Maruti Alto, Maruti Swift, Hyundai Santro, Hyundai i10, Ford Figo, Tata Indica Vista.
According to the auto major, the car has stylish, accessible and reliable.
Nissan India MD Kiminobu Tokuyama told reporters at Geneva Motor Show that the day can be named as a victory day for Nissan and Indian customers. He added that the Nissan Micra would be the first 'Made-in-India' small car of Nissan. He further said that the Chennai plant at Oragadam would be inaugurated soon. Mr Tokuyama also mentioned that the fourth generation Micra had been designed in line with the discerning needs of the Indian customers. The small wonder of Nissan is having ample space for leg, head, hip and shoulder room along with compact exteriors. The car is expected to be rolled out in two engine options viz, HR12 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine and supercharged 1.2-litre direct injection engine. It might be loaded with either five-speed manual gearbox or continuously variable transmission (CVT).
