Nissan, Mitsubishi form partnership, plan global competitive edge

Nissan Motors and Mitsubishi have declared that the Japanese auto majors sharing of the vehicles, extend cooperation between the companies and exchange creative as well as technical expertise and infrastructure to build new car models in the future. The cooperation will increase the competitive edge for both the companies.

Nissan is already in agreement with Mitsubishi to provide the auto giant with a light weight van or wagon for the auto market in Japan and Mitsubishi has also agreed to give Nissan Motors an all new Sports utility vehicle for the Middle East auto market.

From the industry sources, it is revealed that Nissan and Mitsubishi are analysing a project that would enable manufacturing of the Nissan Navara (or Frontier) pickup in the Mitsubishi manufacturing units in Thailand. Other than this it is also being heard that, Nissan Motors and Mitsubishi are planning to come together for its state of the art one-ton pickup for its designing and also to develop and engineer the sub-compact car models for the auto market of Japan.

The Japanese car makers are already in an agreement for producing the sub-compact cars and commercial cars for the Japanese auto market. Nissan Motors and Mitsubishi have stressed that the declaration of the joint venture goes well with the global partnership already realised.

As per Carlos Ghosn, the President and CEO of Nissan Motors, the collaboration is of great significance for the companies as it favours the expansion plans in the emerging auto markets and also fulfils the capacity needs in the overseas markets. It also supports the company to invest in the small car segment in the Japanese auto mobile sector.

Osamu Masuko, Mitsubishi President is contented with the joint venture and said that the company's the extension of the OEM collaboration will favour both the auto companies market specific interest and will add on to the product portfolio such as small car projects, one-ton pickup. He further said that, the partnership will support both the companies and will put it in stronger position in the global auto market.
