Nissan’s Magnite will rival the likes of the Kia Sonet, Ford EcoSport and Tata Nexon.
The sub-4m SUVs available in India will have a new competitor in the form of the Nissan Magnite that’s set to be launched tomorrow. Nissan will offer its sub-4m SUV in five variants: XE, XL, XV, XV Premium, and XV Premium (O). Bookings for the Magnite are open for Rs 11,000 while customer test drives will begin from tomorrow and deliveries from January 2021.
Nissan’s Magnite will be a petrol-only offering. It will feature either a 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (from the Triber) or a new 1.0-litre turbo-petrol unit. The 1.0-litre naturally aspirated will have the same output as the Triber’s (72PS/96Nm) and will come mated to a 5-speed MT only. On the other hand, the new 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine will be offered with either a 5-speed MT or a CVT. It develops up to 100PS and 152Nm with the CVT whereas the torque output of the MT-equipped variants stands at 160Nm. The Magnite will be the first SUV in the segment to be equipped with a CVT gearbox.

Speaking of firsts, Nissan will offer the Magnite with some new features including wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 7-inch digital instrument cluster, and JBL sound system, and a 360-degree camera. Safety kit will include dual front airbags, tyre pressure monitor and ISOFIX child seat anchors.

Nissan will be stepping into one of the most populated SUV segments in India with the launch of the Magnite. It will fight it out with the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza/Toyota Urban Cruiser, Mahindra XUV300, Ford EcoSport, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, and the upcoming Renault Kiger. The Magnite is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 5.5 lakh to Rs 9.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
