Ford EcoSport is one of the most awaited vehicles not only in India but in many other markets, including Europe, China etc. The compact SUV has been developed under Ford’s Global product development process and that is why the car is going to be remaining almost similar different markets. The award-winning 1.0-liter turbo three-cylinder EcoBoost engine is what that make EcoSport very special, this revolutionary engine churns out power equal to a 1.6-litre engine. But, there are reports coming that the vehicle, which is going on sales in China soon, won’t feature the same engine. Instead, it will reportedly have a more basic 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine with 110 horsepower. This is a shocking decision by Ford and it can affect the sales of the vehicle adversely.
The likely reason for the decision is that the company is not assembling the EcoBoost in China and Chinese government has placed heavy taxes on imported automobile components. So, if Ford uses the EcoBoost engine the cost of the vehicle will rise. However, Ford is planning to set-up a new engine assembly plant in China soon, so we can hope for the EcoBoost on the vehicle in near future. Ford is planning to launch EcoSport in India by early 2013 and it will have a EcoBoost for sure, the EcoSport is being produced locally in India and exported to Europe as well.
