Popular cars in India now expensive

Popular cars in India have become costly from April 2010 as major car manufacturers have decided to increase the price of their cars in India. The major reasons behind this price hike includes rising raw material cost, excise duty hike by the government and application of new emission norms BS-IV in 13 major Indian cities.

Maruti India, country's largest car maker which sell's some of the most popular cars in India has increased price of its popular cars including Maruti Alto, Maruti Wagon R, Maruti Swift, Maruti Ritz, Maruti A-Star and Maruti Swift Dzire. The main reason behind this price hike is implementation of new Emission norms as the company has to upgrade its vehicles to make them compatible to new emission norms.

On the other hand India's second largest car maker and larges car exporter has increased price of its vehicles starting from 1st of April. The company is currently selling some of the most popular cars in India like Hyundai Santro Xing, Hyundai i10 and Hyundai i20. The Hyundai cars in India has become costlier by anywhere between Rs 5,000 to Rs 25,000.

Besides this car makers like Fiat and Volkswagen are also expected to increase price of their recently launched models including Ford Figo and Volkswagen Polo. Car makers like Toyota, Honda and Skoda have also increased price of their car in the country.
