  • It is expected to get only the BS6-compliant 1.2-litre petrol engine with manual and AMT gearbox options.

  • It will command a premium over the corresponding WagonR variants.

  • New-gen WagonR retails between Rs 4.34 lakh and 5.91 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Just a few days after it was spotted, we have once again caught a glimpse of what could be a premium iteration of the Maruti WagonR. The new set of pictures reveal the front half of what’s expected to be an entry-level product that could be sold through the Nexa dealerships.

The spy shots reveal that the premium Maruti WagonR could receive a split-headlamp setup unlike any other Maruti Suzuki car so far. The main projector headlight unit could be housed in the bumper whereas the LED DRLs could flank the grille. The fog lamps look similar to the standard WagonR.

The side profile reveals black alloy wheels (expected to be 15-inch) similar to the Ignis while the rest of the design seems unchanged. Earlier test mules had revealed LED elements for the taillights and the high mounted brake light. Maruti could bring Nexa Blue exterior colour on the premium WagonR just like it does on its other Nexa offerings.

Inside, the Maruti WagonR is expected to update the trim and upholstery for a more premium experience. Additionally, it could get new comfort and convenience features such as automatic climate control, cruise control and push-button start/stop, among others.

Maruti WagonR Commands The Longest Waiting Periods In Its Segment This August

Powering the premium WagonR could be the company’s BS6-compliant 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine which delivers 83PS@6000rpm and 113Nm@4200rpm. The transmission options are expected to be the same 5-speed manual and an optional AMT. Being a premium product, Maruti is likely to skip the smaller, less powerful 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine that’s also available on the regular WagonR.

Maruti used to offer the WagonR Stingray (a premium version of the previous generation hatchback) but it was sold through the Arena showrooms. The upmarket WagonR is expected to command a premium over the regular WagonR whose current prices range between Rs 4.34 lakh and Rs 5.91 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Nexa version will go toe-to-toe with the likes of the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios. Image Source
