Renault Duster to make an impression in South America

The luxury brand Renault will launch its new SUV Renault Duster in the South American market including the Brazil and the Argentina market before its India launch. The South America bound Renault Duster is apparently being manufactured in its Curitiba plant. The Dacia badges on the fascia are said to be replaced with the Silver diamond of Renault badge. As for the engine specifications, the Renault Duster in South America will have an option of 1.6 L or a 2.0 L petrol engine deployed with a 5-speed or a six-speed gearboxes.

The India bound SUV is supposed to be manufactured at the Oragadam plant in Chennai, where the Renault and the Nissan vehicles are jointly manufactured. The Indian launch is expected to take place towards the mid 2012 most probably at the Indian Auto Expo. The auto major might also introduce a hatchback based on the V-platform during the same time according to the rumours. The India bound SUV is expected to have the 1.5 L diesel engine from Nissan Micra or the other option might be the 1.5 L petrol engine that powers the Nissan Sunny sedan.

The auto giant is mulling for a localised production of the SUV to place the Renault Duster price in India at a most competitive range of Rs 10 lakhs. The company has adopted the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) route for Renault Fluence and Renault Koleos, which had been the brand shapers for Renault in India. Renault has made its re-entry in the country after parting ways with Mahindra with Renault Fluence sedan.
