Carlos Ghosn, CEO of Renault-Nissan Alliance has said that he is quite happy with the reception of Renault Kwid in India. In addition, he further added that he wants this reception to be converted into market share in India and has expressed the same desire to the Renault India team. In 2015, India as an auto market has presented highest growth i.e. of 7-8%, which bodes well in terms of Renault India’s future prospects in the country.
Having said that, Mr. Ghosn also stated that India as a market is quite complex and would require substantial attention and focus to understand. To gain such understanding, he feels that the company should make its presence more evident in the country and stick to its trial and error approach, which has so far, resulted in the success of Renault Kwid.
The CEO also feels that Indian idiosyncrasy, which makes it believe that about three-quarters of the market share is controlled by only two automakers will result in presenting growth possibilities for small players like Nissan and Renault. Ghosn also added that regardless of what the market situation is, in order to prosper, one must explore possibilities presented by the crossover segment.
Renault’s latest offering, the Kwid was globally launched last month with a starting price-tag of Rs. 2.57 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi) and the overwhelming response received by the car resulted in its bookings being closed for STD, RXE(O), RXT(O) variants after over 50,000 bookings.
In certain regions of the country, the waiting period for the car has been extended up to 6 months. Before the launch of Kwid, Renault's most successful model was the Duster and now with the launch of the hatchback, it looks like the automaker is up for a very fruitful future in the country.
Customers can view the car and gain access to all the other dealership details by visiting the Kwid’s virtual showroom. It is the first of its kind feature that has been made available by an automaker in India.
