Renault mulls a V-platform hatchback for India

Neither Renault Modus nor Renault Clio is expected to be the upcoming Renault’s hatchback. But it is certain that the hatchback is based on the V-platform used by Micra-Nissan alliance many a times and that the hatchback will settle down in high profile B+ segment targeting Maruti Swift. Codenamed as ‘B58’, the made for India hatchback is expected to use the same powerhouse, 1.2 litre-3 cylinder petrol or a 1.5 K9K diesel engine used in the Nissan Micra.

It is most likely that Renault B58 will be unveiled during Indian Grand Prix scheduled for October last week. Mr Carlos Ghosn, CEO of Renault-Nissan said that the company will take full advantage of the Indian Grand Prix where Renault cars participate as well as supply to other Formula 1 teams. The production edition of the concept will come out during Auto Expo in New Delhi during January 2012. Shortly thereafter, Renault B58 will come out in the market.

Renault Grande Modus was spied a lot of times near Chennai where the facility of Renault-Nissan is located. However, it was confirmed later the car was undergoing some validation tests for eight countries and is not meant for an Indian launch. Renault Clio, which is scheduled to make its global entry in 2012 for it new Generation Renault Clio model is also not a probable contender for Indian market. The hatchback Renault B58 will essentially use the V-platform used in Nissan Micra and Nissan Sunny. The styling to be adopted in Renault B58 will purely reflect Renault’s signature work.
