Renault Nissan India Reaches A New Milestone, 25 Lakh Cars Produced Till Date

In its 13 years of operations, the group has averaged manufacturing one car every three minutes

Renault and Nissan have been operating in India for the past 13 years as a single entity under the name Renault Nissan Automotive India Private Limited (RNAIPL). And now the group has reached an immense milestone, manufacturing a combined total of 25 lakh cars.

All these cars were manufactured in the group’s facility in Chennai and according to the group, they’ve made over 20 different cars during this period. Also, out of the 25 lakh cars, 11.5 lakh were exported to 108 different markets in the Middle East, Europe, Latin America, New Zealand, Australia, Southeast Asia, SAARC countries and Sub-Saharan Africa. Given the recent celebration of Renault’s 10-lakh unit production milestone, the remaining 15 lakh units of this group milestone were for Nissan models.

Currently, Renault-Nissan only has four models on sale. Renault has the Kiger, Triber, and Kwid, while Nissan only has the Magnite.

But the group has plans to expand its lineup and increase operations in India by launching six new models, including two EVs, for which the group will be investing Rs 5,300 crore in the country.

2.5 million cars: Renault Nissan Automotive India crosses momentous manufacturing milestone

Renault Nissan Automotive Pvt Ltd (RNAIPL) has announced that it has manufactured 2.5 million cars at its state-of-the-art Chennai manufacturing facility. Over the past 13 years, the Alliance plant has exemplified manufacturing excellence, manufacturing on an average over 1.92 lakh (192,000) Renault and Nissan cars every year, equivalent to one car produced every three minutes. In total, 20 models of cars across Renault and Nissan have been manufactured by the plant since commencing operations.

Spread over 600 acres at Oragadam, Chennai, the Alliance plant has manufactured cars not only for the Indian market but has also played a vital role in establishing Chennai as a renowned international hub for automotive exports. RNAIPL has exported more than 1.15 million vehicles from Chennai's Kamarajar Port Ltd (formerly Ennore Port Ltd.) to more than 108 destinations including markets in the Middle Eastern countries, Europe, Latin America, New Zealand, Australia, South-East Asia, SAARC countries, and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Future plans

Earlier this year, the Renault Nissan Alliance announced an investment of $600 million / Rs5300 crores in India to introduce new products and technologies, and boost production and R&D activities. The Alliance's future focus includes the production of six new vehicles, including two fully electric vehicles that will be manufactured at RNAIPL. These projects will enhance overall plant utilisation and secure thousands of jobs for years to come.
